The pasillo is a descendent of the European waltz that has become a symbol of national identity in both Colombia and Ecuador. One interesting feature common to pasillos is the variety of technical patterns featured in the melodic lines. The Andante section should be thought as three beats per measure. In contrast, the Allegro section can be performed thinking of one count per measure.
